Hi David,
I have followed your incredible SYSPREP explanation.
But i need some help please. I have installed a volume version of XP Pro with SP3 (GRTMPVOL_EN), after a successfull installation i populated the inf file with all Mass Storage Devices (sysprep -bmsd) after that i did a sysprep with reseal and minisetup, everything whent well until i restart the system, right after the reboot i now get a 0×7b, i did used the latest sysprep version (and have done the above often in the past) so i don’t understand why i am now getting this error.
I really would apreciate some help with this issue!
Hi Charles,
Glad to hear you liked my SysPrep info.
About your 0×7b bsod, this is normally due to a driver issue on the hard drives controller. Most often I see this on SATA controllers where the wrong driver was installed or maybe not even installed at all.
If you have added any new drivers to you SysPrep drivers folder I would try removing those that you added and trying again, see if that helps. If this is a new set of hardware I would check to see if you have the correct drivers in the drivers folder.
Many times I have seen an inf file that says it works on all sorts of devices and then ends up installing on a devices it really doesn’t work on.
Nevertheless, I ran into an other issue lately by trying my magic sysprep on laptops shiped with Vista (and obviously not XP friendly).
I did all kind of tests but nothing worked, I still get the BSOD, the disk driver is not correctly loaded. The chipset causing this troubles is the Intel ICH7/8/9.
Ìf anyone as a clue to this problem, I will be great to hear an path to an answer.

Thanks a lot for all these great tips.
You saved me a lot of time with my family…
With the help of http://driverpacks.net/ and http://www.hardware.info/en-US/news/ym2cmZqYwp2a/Problems_updating_to_a_dualcore_CPU_Not_anymore/ and http://www.vernalex.com/guides/sysprep/index.shtml I just keep a single image for all my network’s workstation (more than 14 types of different hardware plateforms supported out of restore). That’s amazing !
