Text Messaging, IM, Emails, Phones and Social Networking

Not that any of this matters to anyone but me but this is a little bit of a personal pet peeve of mine so hang in there with me.

Why is it text messaging and social networking have become such a great way to communicate with friends and family? I can see uses here and there for all these new methods but many of the applications for them just don’t seem to be much better than other methods already around. Take text messaging, if you want to talk to someone, you are both free and nether one of you must be quiet then just call just call them. You have a phone, they have a phone, and have you ever noticed that you can talk to someone faster than you can text? I have seen text messaging conversations take hours just to have the same conversation that takes less the 5 minutes if they had just called each other.

Odd Vista File Transfer Windows

I was transferring files from computer to computer the other day and was getting some odd data transfer windows from Vista. The only one I was able to get a screenshot of was this one that shows a positive number of items remaining and negative number of bytes remaining.
