Who am I again?

Well I have know this for some time now, but there are other David Remy’s in the world. Doing a quick search on Google for “David Remy” will return (at the time of this writing) over 22,800 hits, and most of them are other David Remy’s in the world.

One of them is David L. Remy who is in the IT world as well. David L. Remy who has a book “Securing Web Services with WS-Security” which he wrote with Jonathan “Jothy” Rosenberg seems to show up on all kinds of sites and is the David Remy I have know for some time was sharing my name.

I apparently already have a myspace account as well, http://www.myspace.com/davidremy, who knew? This particular David Remy is a french Rock/Jazz/Funk artist. This was new to me as I have not searched for my own name in some time. This myspace account has been around for only 3 months and seems to be about the easiest way to find information on David Remy and his band.

Although I am in no way related to any of these David Remy’s (that I know of) I am awed by how many there are of us. Maybe someday I (the true me) can work myself to the top 10 links on Google with the others.

I love Dr Pepper, but what is this about Dr. Paper?

Well school is going well and I am really enjoying my classes. Last night I found out what the final for on of my classes will be and I think it will be a fun project. I have decided to write a 5 page essay on the vision, mission and ethical statements of Remy Services (of which I currently do not have one). This paper will definitely be hard in both length and in style but I think this will be a great paper to get myself back into the school thing.

When I started at NAU I was told that papers would have to be turned in with the APA style writing and not the MLA format. Well since I have never even heard of the APA format and I need to learn in relatively quickly I am looking at software (or from what I am seeing, templates) to help me out. I have seen that Office 2007 supports APA formatting, but I don’t know how APA is supposed to look so I am looking at purchasing Dr .Paper to help me out in this predicament. I have heard good things about both Dr. Paper and Perrla but Perrla does not support Office 2007 currently so I have a support call into the people over at The Write Direction (makes of Dr. Paper) to see if it is supported on 2007 and to figure out what version would be best for me.

On a side note I am going to switch the style of my blog a little. I have decided that to facilitate a quicker understanding of what the blog post is about I will no longer title the blog with the title of the song (unless it is fitting).

Toshiba Settlement and Laptop Power Issue

Yesterday I picked up a Toshiba M35X laptop that is experiencing a failed power connector on the motherboard. Unfortunately this is not the first time I have seen this.

It seems this is a very common issue, and from the site I have found about this issue people have found all kinds of ways to fix this. For more info on this issue see the links below.

I also found when researching this issue that many of the Toshiba Satellite A70, A75, M30X and M35X have an automatically extended warranty due to a ESD issue. This warranty went into affect on November 7 2006 and will last for 12 months. The settlement site has more info on the issue, but even if you are not experiencing the ESD issue your laptop is already covered by the extended warranty.

HP ze1250 Missing Floppy

Over the last few days I have been working on a HP ze1250 laptop that has an interesting floppy drive enclosure.

When it was first pointed out to me I had no clue as to what it could have been. Upon opening the laptop and checking it out I found a peace of plastic that had been put in slot where the floppy drive should be, but there were no connectors for a floppy drive. It seems HP designed the laptop with a cutout in the molding for a floppy drive but no means to plug in a floppy drive.

I just wish someone could explain why in the world HP designed a laptop like this.
